A video clip of a doctor shouting at a sick patient has caught the attention of the world after footage was captured on a mobile phone in Florida, USA.
Jessica Stipe simply questioned the doctor about the waiting time after getting a little agitated by how long she had been in the surgery, but received the response: “Get the f*** out of my office!”
She had complained that she was supposed to be seen at 6.30pm and was now 7.45pm – therefore had waited over an hour and fifteen minutes over her allocated time.
In the video clip, Doctor Gallogly shouts at her:
“Do you want to be seen or not?”
The patient responds that she simply wishes to go home as quickly as possible and go to bed.
In a rage, he lashes back with: “Then fine, get the hell out, get your money and get the hell out, see you later.”
The patient claimed that she was in “severe pain and throwing up in a trash can.”
“All they had me do was pee in a cup to see if I’m pregnant … ummm I know I’m not,” Jessica wrote on a Facebook status.
“I asked for my co pay back so I could leave and go back home to bed and try to be seen elsewhere tomorrow because I’m just miserable that all I want is my bed.”
She continued: “My daughter recorded it because they were so rude. When he saw it was being recorded he snatched my baby’s phone and shoved her when she tried to get it back“.
However, according to Doctor Gallogy who spoke to CBS, the video “was heavily edited and taken out of context“.
The clinic also posted a statement from Gallogly himself on their Facebook page, in order to try set the record straight:
“Ms. Stipe had been increasingly belligerent and abusive to the office staff, cursing them and threatening them with violence, because she was unwell and had been waiting to be seen by me for more than an hour,” he wrote.
“I went to the front desk only because after Ms. Stipe received her refund, she refused to leave the office, and continued her abusive behavior towards staff.”
Gallogly does agree however, that his behaviour was slightly inappropriate: “While not an excuse for my behavior, a basic reason for my reaction is that I simply regard my staff as family, and I over-reacted to defend them.” he added.
